Skin Health Institute is a private tertiary referral centre established in 1987 with donations from thirty-six dermatologists. Since that time Skin Health Institute has acted as the home of Victorian Dermatology and has been a leader in managing and developing treatment for skin diseases. Currently over fifty dermatologists and other specialists attend on a sessional basis, staffing subspeciality clinics including clinics for diseases of the hair and scalp, nails, and oral mucosa.

Skin Health Institute also hosts clinics for psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo, organ transplant recipients, melanoma, and non-melanoma skin cancer (including actinic keratoses). Since 2001 Skin Health Institute has been the home of the Occupational Dermatology Research and Education Centre (ODREC), complementing our contact dermatitis and patch testing services.

The clinicians and staff at the Skin Health Institute work with the pharmaceutical industry and patient support groups, including Psoriasis Australia, in exploring new treatment options and developing educational resources about skin disease to provide information for their professional colleagues, patients, and the community. Skin Health Institute has been an investigative site for over fifty clinical trials, most with Associate Professor Peter Foley BMedSc, MBBS, MD, FACD (a dermatologist of over 10 years standing) as Principal Investigator. He is supported by senior dermatologists and clinical researchers Associate Professor Chris Baker, Dr Anna Braue and Dr Katherine Armour, along with experienced clinical trials nurses and co-ordinators.
